Word Cloud Generator
Paste any text and the word cloud draws its most frequent words, sized by how often each one appears. Common words such as "the" and "and" are removed automatically, in whichever of 16 languages the text is written in, so the cloud shows the words that carry the meaning. The settings change the colors, background, font, word direction and shape, and set how many words to show and how short a word can be.
Click a word in the cloud, or use the Word List below it, to remove a word you do not want. The cloud downloads as a PNG image about 2,000 pixels wide for slides and documents, or as an SVG file that scales to any size for print. The same text and settings always give the same cloud, and the Shuffle button tries a different arrangement.
How do I create a word cloud from my text?
Paste or type your text into the box. The word cloud appears beside it and updates as you type, with the most frequent words drawn largest. Until you enter anything, the cloud shows an example made from sample text.
Use the download buttons under the cloud to save it as a PNG or an SVG file. In browsers that support it, the copy button puts the image on your clipboard so you can paste it straight into a document or slide.
Can I customize the appearance of my word cloud?
Yes. The settings let you choose a color scheme or a single color of your own, a white, dark or transparent background, one of five fonts, and whether words run horizontally, vertically, diagonally or at any angle. The shape can be an oval or rectangle that fills the frame, or a circle, heart, diamond, triangle or star.
Colors follow word frequency, so the most common words always get the strongest colors. With a single color, rarer words are drawn lighter as well as smaller.
How do I remove a word from the word cloud?
Click the word in the cloud, or open the Word List and press the remove button next to it. The word is added to Words To Exclude in the settings, where you can also type words to leave out, separated by commas. Delete a word from that field to bring it back.
Which common words are removed?
Articles, pronouns, prepositions and other very common words. The tool works out the language from the text itself and uses the list for English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Turkish, Slovenian, Filipino, Greek, Russian, Ukrainian or Hindi. The Word List shows which language was used. Turn off Remove Common Words to count every word.
Words that differ only in capitalization are counted together and shown the way the text most often writes them. Turn on Match Case to count them separately.
Should I download a PNG or an SVG?
A PNG is an image that works almost anywhere: documents, slides, websites and social posts. An SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, which suits posters and other print, and it can be edited in design software. Choose a transparent background to place the cloud over your own colors.
What text can I use for a word cloud?
Any plain text: articles, essays, speeches, survey responses, customer feedback, meeting notes or social media posts. Your text stays in your browser and is not uploaded. For exact counts of every word, use the Word Frequency Counter. If you just want to test a layout before your real content is ready, paste in some lorem ipsum placeholder text.
