Email Extractor
The Email Extractor finds every email address in a block of text and lists it in the output, ready to copy or download. Paste in an email thread, a web page, a chat log or a column copied from a spreadsheet, or upload the file itself: Excel and CSV spreadsheets, Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint slides, Outlook messages (.msg), saved emails (.eml and .mbox) and contact cards (.vcf) all work. Addresses behind a link, such as an "Email us" link in a Word document or PDF, are found too.
Duplicates are removed by default, ignoring case. The settings separate the list with commas or semicolons for pasting into an email's To field, sort it, convert it to lowercase, or keep only the domains you name and leave out others. Everything runs in your browser, so neither your text nor your files are sent anywhere.
How do I extract email addresses from an Excel spreadsheet?
Upload the .xlsx, .xls or .csv file with the Upload file button, or drag it onto the text box. Every sheet is read, and its cells appear in the box separated by tabs, the same as copying them. You can also select the cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy them and paste them in. The addresses can be in any column and can sit inside other text, such as "Jane Smith <jane@example.com>" in a single cell.
How do I extract email addresses from Outlook emails?
For a single message, open it and use File, Save As to save it as an Outlook message (.msg), then upload it. The sender, recipients, Cc list and any addresses in the body are found. To go through several messages, save each one and select them all at once in the file picker, or drag them onto the text box together. You can also select the message text with Ctrl+A, copy it and paste it in.
For all of your contacts, export them from classic Outlook with File, Open & Export, Import/Export, Export to a file, then choose Comma Separated Values, and upload the CSV it creates.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are opened and read by your browser on your own device, and the addresses are found there. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to Convert Case or anyone else, which matters for a contact list or a customer export. The one download the tool makes is the PDF reader, which is fetched the first time you upload a PDF.
Why is an email address missing from the results?
The tool finds addresses written in the usual form, name@domain.com. An address written out to hide it, such as "jane at example dot com", is not recognized, and neither is an address that is part of an image, including a scanned PDF. For those, use the Image to Text Converter first and paste its text here. A password protected file cannot be read until the password is removed.
If duplicates seem to be missing, Remove duplicates treats addresses that differ only in capitals as the same, since email providers deliver them to the same mailbox.
How do I paste the list into the To field of an email?
Set Separate with to Comma for Gmail and most other email apps, or Semicolon for Outlook, then copy the output and paste it into the To, Cc or Bcc field. When writing to people who do not know each other, use Bcc so their addresses are not shared with everyone on the list.
