Number to Words Converter
Number to Words Converter
This tool spells out numbers in plain English words. Type a figure such as 12535 on the left and it becomes twelve thousand five hundred thirty-five on the right. Use the swap button to switch direction and turn number words back into digits. It handles whole numbers, negative numbers, and decimals, and it ignores thousands separators so you can paste values like 1,250,000 directly.
How do I convert a number into words?
Type or paste the number into the left panel. The words appear instantly on the right, ready to copy. For example, 2025 becomes two thousand twenty-five and 0.75 becomes zero point seven five. Commas used as thousands separators are handled automatically, so 1,000,000 reads as one million.
Can I convert words back into a number?
Yes. Click the swap button to switch direction, then type or paste the written words on the left, such as three hundred forty-two, and the digits appear on the right. The reverse direction works with whole-number words. It reads both hyphenated forms like twenty-one and spaced forms, and tolerates the word "and" as in one hundred and one.
How large a number can it spell out?
It spells out numbers up through the decillions (10 to the power of 33) using American English short-scale names such as thousand, million, billion, and on up through quintillion, sextillion, and decillion. Anything larger shows a short notice instead. Decimals are read digit by digit after the word "point", so 3.14 becomes three point one four.
What is this converter useful for?
Writing out amounts in words is common on checks, contracts, invoices, and legal documents, where the written form confirms the numeric figure. It is also handy for teaching children how numbers are named and for proofreading written content. For a different way to rewrite numbers, try the Roman numeral converter.
