What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses?
IPv4 addresses are the older, more familiar format consisting of four groups of numbers separated by dots (e.g., 192.168.1.1), with each group ranging from 0 to 255. This gives a total of roughly 4.3 billion unique addresses. IPv6 was introduced to solve the address exhaustion problem and uses eight groups of four hexadecimal digits separated by colons (e.g., 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334), providing an astronomically larger pool of addresses. Our generator creates valid examples of both formats so you can test systems that rely on either protocol.
